The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Imo State Chapter, said that due to the state’s increasing insecurity, they would report the governor, Hope Uzodimma, to the International Crime Court (ICC).
They also stated that they will contact the American embassy to request that Gov. Hope Uzodinma and other members of his administration face an immediate and complete visa ban.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Party’s spokeperson, Collins Opurozo, at a press conference held on Sunday in Owerri.
Opurozo maintains that the purpose of government is to promote the best possible quality of life. Therefore, there is no justification for any government to continue to exist while people are being kidnapped, brutally killed, and having their homes set on fire.
He criticized the rate at which the Imo region has been taken over and populated by murderers, arsonists, and kidnappers, stating that the Imo bandit population is larger than the combined areas of Malta and Vatican City.
“The largest senatorial district in the State, which is Orlu, has been abandoned, economic activities crippled and over a million residents displaced. Okigwe Zone has also become a war front. Parts of Owerri Zone are fast becoming engulfed in this fire of insecurity. If we do not act now, every Imo person may soon become a refugee in other parts of the country.
“Traditional rulers are now brutally murdered. In some instances, they are beheaded and their bodies dumped in the streets. Judges are dragged out from their courtrooms and slaughtered like rams. In the last seven days, two Catholic priests have been abducted and their whereabouts are still unknown. Things have fallen apart, and Imo has become a wasteland,” He said.
He continued by saying that the party had documented every instance of murder and violation of human rights in the State and had started the process of bringing those cases before the International Criminal Court so that the top figures in this anti-people government would face justice for their heinous crimes against humanity.
They then urged Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President-elect, to act quickly after assuming office to end the Federal Government’s inaction regarding Senator Uzodinma’s use of the state apparatus to oppress the Imo residents, suppress the press, and put down political opposition.
