Independence: FG Declares Monday Public Holiday

To mark Nigeria’s 63rd independence anniversary, the Federal Government has declared Monday, October 2, 2023, as a public holiday.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, In a statement, announced this on Thursday.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo who acknowledged the various socio-economic and security challenges, facing Nigerians said the government is committed to addressing the challenges.

“The challenges are not unique to the nation but are global issues,” the Minister said “the government is actively working to confront these challenges and is determined to find solutions to them.”

Tunji-Ojo used the occasion to call for unity among Nigerians and also reflected on Nigeria’s history and the unity of its founding fathers.

The minister said they came together despite differences in faith, tribe, and language to secure the country’s freedom.

“As Nigerians prepare to celebrate Independence Day, this public holiday serves as a reminder of the nation’s journey and its determination to overcome challenges and achieve greatness,” she said.
