A wave of terror returned to Maiduguri on Monday evening, March 16, 2026, as multiple bomb explosions rocked at least three strategic locations across the city.

The coordinated attacks occurred around 7:30 p.m., striking the heart of the capital’s commercial and healthcare districts.

The targeted areas were; El-Kanemi Monday Market, the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) Area and Post Office Area.

Initial reports from emergency services and eyewitnesses suggest that “scores of people” have been killed or injured.

While official casualty figures are still being compiled, videos emerging from the scenes show a devastating impact, with many victims being rushed to hospitals in private vehicles and ambulances.

The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the deployment of joint security operatives and emergency responders to the affected areas. Nahum Daso, the police spokesperson, stated that specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit have been dispatched to ensure no secondary devices are present.
