Maiduguri Bombings: Governors Call for Arrest of Attackers

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has condemned the recent bombings in Maiduguri, calling on security agencies to urgently track down and prosecute those responsible.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the forum’s chairman, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, said the attacks, which left several people dead and others injured, were deeply troubling and demanded a stronger security response.

“We are deeply shocked and heartbroken by the terrorist attacks that struck parts of Maiduguri, resulting in the loss of many innocent lives,” the statement said.

The governors urged security agencies to intensify efforts to protect citizens and prevent further violence, stressing the need for a more coordinated approach to tackling insecurity across Nigeria.

They described the attacks as a serious breach of public safety and noted that the violence, occurring during the holy month of Ramadan, was particularly distressing.

The forum also expressed solidarity with the governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, and residents affected by the attacks, offering condolences to families of the victims and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

While condemning the violence, the NGF commended the response of local authorities, the military and emergency services, saying their swift action helped prevent further casualties.

“NGF stands firmly with the government and people of Borno.

“The NGF remains confident that the state will overcome this tragedy and emerge stronger and more united,” the statement added.
