An Israeli airstrike has killed a local political figure and two others in eastern Beirut, further deepening tensions within Lebanon amid ongoing regional conflict.
Truth Live News International learnt from Reuters that the strike, which occurred on April 6, 2026, hit an apartment in Ain Saadeh, a predominantly Christian area. Among those killed was Pierre Moawad, a member of the Lebanese Forces, along with his wife Flavia and another woman, according to local authorities.
The incident has intensified divisions in the country, particularly between supporters of Hezbollah and those who blame the group for escalating hostilities with Israel.
Israel said the strike targeted what it described as a militant-related site but acknowledged that the political figure was not an intended target. The military added that it is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the civilian casualties.
Lebanese officials reported that the building was hit by precision-guided munitions, causing significant damage. No prior evacuation warning was issued before the strike.
The attack comes amid a wider Israeli military campaign launched after cross-border hostilities linked to Hezbollah. The conflict has displaced large numbers of people and raised concerns over internal stability in Lebanon.
President Joseph Aoun emphasized the importance of maintaining national unity, describing civil peace as a top priority during the crisis.
As the conflict expands into new areas, fears are growing that further strikes could worsen divisions and destabilize the country.
