Donald Trump, President of the United States, has sparked controversy after claiming he received a “very big present” from Iran, despite ongoing tensions between both nations.
Speaking to journalists at the White House on Tuesday, March 24, Trump said the alleged gift was tied to oil and gas and described it as being worth “a tremendous amount of money.” However, he did not provide specific details about what exactly was given.
According to Trump, the development has strengthened his confidence in Tehran’s leadership, suggesting there may be progress in efforts to end hostilities in the Middle East.
The US president also reiterated that Washington has been in discussions with Iran regarding a “complete and total resolution of hostilities” in Israel and the broader Middle East region. Based on this, he noted that his earlier threat to strike Iranian power plants has been temporarily suspended.
This comes after a major escalation on February 28, when the United States and Israel reportedly launched attacks on Iran, leading to the death of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
Since then, Iran has carried out retaliatory strikes targeting Israel and US military bases, while counterattacks from the US and Israel have continued.
Trump’s statement has triggered mixed reactions, particularly on social media platform X.
Some observers questioned the credibility of the claim, noting the absence of verifiable details and pointing out that Tehran has publicly denied direct negotiations with Washington.
Others suggested the statement may be politically motivated, possibly aimed at calming markets or shaping public perception rather than reflecting a concrete diplomatic breakthrough.
