The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association (IPMAN), Edo State chapter, has commended the state government for making them members of the petroleum product monitoring taskforce, saying this is the first time they would be included in such a process.

The chairman of the chapter, Mr. Baba Saliu gave the commendation at the meeting with markers in Benin City.

He said being member of the taskforce will enable them to know those hoarding the product and causing undue scarcity in the state.

Saliu said the state has witnessed scarcity of the product before and successive governments have set up various monitoring teams without incorporating them into the system.

The state chapter IPMAN’s boss maintained that the setting up of the taskforce was not to witch-hunt the union but to join forces with it to solve whatever challenges may be confronting it.

“The taskforce set up or that is about to be set up by the Edo State Government is not to witch-hunt anybody.

“They are going to partner with us to make sure we are able to do our business peacefully without fear or favour.

“So, don’t be afraid that Edo State is setting up taskforce.

“We are going to work together because you will agree with me that one of the statements from the commissioner, he said it that, they are aware that petroleum product is on the exclusive list of the federal government.

“They want to join us to assist us, they are not coming to fight us.

“That is why they put all the relevant agencies together so that all of us will be having a town hall meeting and if we have any problem, they will join us to solve it to make sure we can get petroleum product for the good people of Edo State”, Saliu said.
