The Court of Appeal in Abuja overturned a Federal High Court order that had barred three prominent members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from attending the party’s National Executive Committee meetings.
The three affected chieftains—former PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus, ex-Rivers State Governor Celestine Omehia, and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Austin Opara—had been previously prohibited from attending by Justice Inyang Ekwo.
The appellate court’s unanimous decision found that the lower court had exceeded its authority by intervening in the internal governance of the PDP. The ruling showed that decisions regarding party membership and attendance at internal meetings are matters for the PDP to resolve independently, not for judicial oversight.
