The Benue state house of assembly has given Governor Hyacinth Alia a seventy two hours ultimatum to appoint a special adviser on security, as a direct fallout of the inability to reach the security agencies as a state for timely response to the two hours Otukpo bank robbery.
Truth Live News gathered that the ultimatum by the state legislature, follows a motion moved by the member representing Otukpo-Akpa state constituency, Mr. Angbo Kennedy who among other prayers, wants all hotels and leisure spots to open mandatory ledger on all guests, use of CCTV cameras and also improve security deployment to the area.
The speaker, Hon Aondona Dajoh while ruling on the prayers, gives the governor a three days ultimatum to appoint a security adviser, five months into his administration with no clear direction on security matters to coordinate state security issues in collaboration with the security agencies to maintain law and order.
One of the state lawmakers, Mr. Godwin Edoh who escaped the Otukpo bank robbery where dynamites were used as explosives while narrating his traumatic experience, lament his inability to reach out to anyone from the state for lack of a substantive security adviser at the state level as well as at the local government level where local government chairmen in the states remain suspended since June 2023.
According to the member representing Otukpo-Akpa at the state assembly, Mr. Angbo Kennedy, the bank robbery in Otukpo where the Divisional police officer, Mr. John Adikwu and three other personnel, including a pregnant officer and six other civilians were killed, has opened up gaps in the security architecture of the state.
