Former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, is requesting N25 billion as compensation from Senate President Godswill Akpabio due to an accusation of defamation.

Matthew Burkaa, who serves as Emefiele’s counsel, shared this information in a letter sent to journalists on Wednesday.

Emefiele is requesting a public apology from Akpabio for his recent remarks regarding the former CBN governor’s time in office.

Recall Truth Live News reported that Akpabio has criticized Emefiele for enacting measures that have contributed to the ongoing economic challenges faced by many Nigerians.

“I remember President Obama saying you cannot know Washington until you get to Washington. So by the time we went in to look at the economic situation of the country, it was terrible,”

“Whether to charge him for putting foam on top of a pail, or to charge him for illegal possession of firearms, or to charge him for printing notes without income. I don’t know what we’re going to charge him with.”
Akpabio said in Port-Harcourt on Sunday.
