Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara has instructed all 23 local government chairmen to contest the upcoming local government election under the All People’s Party (APP) banner.

Truth Live News gathered that this development comes on the heels of Fubara losing control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The governor’s directive is seen as a strategic move to consolidate power and regain control in the state. However, it’s worth noting that Fubara had previously sacked the 23 local government chairmen in October 2023, citing loyalty issues with former governor Wike. The chairmen were appointed, not elected, giving Fubara the authority to remove them.

The local government election is scheduled for October 5th, and Fubara’s decision to defect to APP may have significant implications for the state’s politics.
