A Kaduna court has sentenced three individuals – John Moses, Yakubu Mohammed, and initially reported Mustapha Musa – to death by hanging for rape.
However, Mustapha Musa was actually sentenced to life imprisonment.
According to Kaduna State Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Rabi Salisu, the ministry secured three rape convictions between June 2024 and February 2025.
This development is seen as a step forward in combating sexual violence and deterring potential offenders.
The convictions were made in the following cases:
– John Moses: Convicted on June 7, 2024, for rape and incest under Section 258(1) of the Penal Code Law 2017. He was sentenced to death by hanging and surgical castration.
– Yakubu Mohammed: Convicted on February 6, 2025, on a two-count charge of rape under the same legal provision. He received the same sentence as Moses.
– Mustapha Musa: Sentenced to life imprisonment on February 24, 2025, in a separate case.
The prosecutions were handled by M.P. Danjuma Esq. and Halimatu S. Bello Esq.
