Kenneth Okonkwo, former spokesperson of the Labour Party, has claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders have become subservient to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okonkwo attributed the main opposition party’s crisis to the appointment of Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by the APC government.
According to Okonkwo, President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Wike has diminished the PDP’s standing as an opposition party.
Speaking on Channel Television’s programme, Okonkwo, a popular Nollywood actor-turned-politician, criticized the PDP for accommodating members who worked against the party in the 2023 elections.
Okonkwo stated, “Look at what’s happening in the PDP. Some people openly worked against the party’s interests, and everyone saw it. You accommodated them and made excuses. Now, they want to take over the party, and they’ve been given an appointment. If they hijack the party, true members will become subservient to the APC.”
He concluded that the PDP’s leadership crisis is self-inflicted, and the party must take responsibility for its current situation.
