ABUJA: Toba Owojaiye reporting
Callistus Uju Okafor, the factional acting chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has branded the so-called stakeholders’ meeting convened by Governor Alex Otti of Abia State as nothing more than an exercise in futility and outright illegality.
In a bold statement made available to Truth Live News on Wednesday, Okafor dismissed the gathering, which crowned Senator Nenadi Usman as interim national chairman, as a sham.
He urged Nigerians and party loyalists to remain vigilant against those he described as political saboteurs.
Referencing Article 11 of the party’s 2009 Constitution and the consent judgement by Hon. GO Kolawole on March 20, 2018, Okafor systematically dismantled the legitimacy of the meeting.
“We want the public to understand that this so-called Labour Party stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia was nothing more than a carnival of confusion, completely outside the bounds of any recognized party authority,” he declared.
Okafor didn’t mince words when he challenged Governor Otti to provide an official letter from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) granting him the authority to convene such a meeting, asserting that the entire charade was null and void.
He further remarked that neither Governor Otti nor Peter Obi had any constitutional right to call for a party meeting.
