The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed the legality of speed limits on select roads, citing Section 28(2)(a) of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (2018) as the basis for imposing penalties on drivers who exceed prescribed limits.

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, emphasized the need for motorists to comply with speed limits to ensure road safety.

Osiyemi clarified that the Ministry of Transportation has exclusive authority over traffic signage design, size, and color, ensuring uniformity and compliance with international standards.

He also addressed misinformation surrounding speed limit enforcement, urging the public to refrain from spreading false claims.

Currently, speed cameras are operational only on Alapere Road and Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, with plans to expand to additional areas based on further assessments.

The primary objective of the speed cameras is to enhance safety for both motorists and commuters.
