APC Dismisses Crisis Claims, Denies Mass Resignations in Enugu

The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports of internal crisis, describing allegations of mass resignations and non-payment of delegates’ stipends as a “false narrative” driven by mischief-makers.

In a statement issued on Sunday, April 12, 2026, the State Publicity Secretary, Uche Obute, said there was no unrest within the party, particularly regarding the welfare of delegates who attended the recent national convention.

Obute described the claims as “concocted stories” aimed at distracting the party from its objective of securing significant victories in the 2027 general elections.

Addressing reports that some members had exited the party over alleged marginalisation, the APC insisted that its structure in Enugu had instead been strengthened under the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah.

The party further claimed that Enugu had evolved into a stronghold of the APC, stating that members across various levels of governance were aligned with its platform.

“The Governor is widely known for his inclusive leadership style, carrying along both members of the old APC bloc and new entrants into the party,” the statement read.

Highlighting what it described as an inclusive structure, the party noted that members of the “old bloc” still hold key positions, citing the South-East Zonal Woman Leader, Oby Ajih, and the Deputy National Chairman (South), Ben Nwoye, as examples.

“Both the old and new blocs are fully accommodated at all levels of party leadership, from the wards to the local government areas and the state structure,” the statement added.

Reaffirming its unity under the state chairman, Martin Chukwunweike, the party urged members and the public to disregard the reports.

The APC expressed confidence that no amount of “sponsored misinformation” would derail its progress or its efforts to consolidate its position in the state ahead of future elections.
