The family of a student implicated in a viral assault video involving students of Igbinedion Education Centre has issued a public apology, expressing deep regret over the incident.
In a statement shared on social media on Saturday March 14, 2026 in Benin City, Edo State, the Asoro family said they were “deeply ashamed” and heartbroken after seeing the video circulating online, which shows students of the school assaulting a fellow student.

The statement, signed by Mr. Tim Asoro on behalf of the family, acknowledged that their son was among those identified in the footage and described the incident as a painful and distressing experience for them as parents.
“We watched it with shock, sadness, and profound embarrassment,” the statement read, adding that the family was deeply sorry that their child was involved in conduct that caused pain and distress to another student.
The family offered a direct apology to the victim and his family, stating that no child deserves to be treated in such a manner. They also extended their apologies to the management, teachers, parents, and students of Igbinedion Education Centre for the distress and negative attention the incident had brought to the school community.
According to the statement, available medical reports indicate that the victim is physically fine. However, the family emphasised that this does not lessen the seriousness of the incident or the emotional impact it may have caused.
The Asoro family said the development had led to deep reflection within their household, noting that they had held serious discussions with their son, who has expressed remorse for his actions.
They added that steps are already being taken to ensure he receives guidance, counselling, and moral support to help him learn from the experience and grow into a more responsible and compassionate individual.
The family also said they respect the disciplinary decision taken by the school authorities and acknowledged the seriousness with which the matter has been handled.
The apology concluded with a renewed expression of regret to the victim, his family, and the school community, while expressing hope that healing would come to everyone affected by the incident.
