Kano State was thrown into mourning on Saturday following a gruesome attack in which a woman, identified as Fatima Abubakar, and her six children were brutally killed after unknown hoodlums broke into their residence at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters.
According to the Kano State Police Command, the incident was reported at about 12:10pm through a distress call alerting security operatives to a violent attack on the household of one Haruna Bashir. The assailants reportedly invaded the home and unleashed a deadly assault on the occupants using dangerous weapons, inflicting fatal injuries on all the victims.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, immediately mobilised a team of officers to the scene. The team was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Isah Mani.
The bodies of the victims were evacuated from the scene and rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where medical personnel confirmed them dead.
Following the tragic incident, the Commissioner of Police directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), ACP Wada Jarma, to lead a comprehensive investigation aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the attack and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
In a particularly disturbing detail, reports indicated that the attackers not only killed the woman and her children but also threw an infant into a well within the compound.

The Kano State Police Command expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Dorayi Chiranchi, and the entire Kano State, assuring the public that all necessary efforts are being intensified to apprehend those responsible for the heinous crime.
