Popular Nigerian socialite and entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest (Pascal Okechukwu) has called on the South-East to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asserting that political support for the president could pave the way for the release of detained IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The appeal came in response to a viral video of the Igwe of Ezema Olo, Dr. Lawrence Agubuzo, who personally appealed to President Tinubu in Abuja, urging him to “hear our cry” and secure Kanu’s freedom.
Sharing the video on his social media, Cubana Chief Priest praised the monarch’s initiative and emphasized the value of direct engagement with the government.
“The message is very clear. God bless Your Royal Highness for partaking in Nigeria’s future. If His Highness had not gone to Abuja, how would Asiwaju have received this message?” he wrote.
He further argued that confrontation with the federal government is counterproductive and urged the region to align politically with Tinubu.
“We cannot fight the government. If Asiwaju frees MNK, the Igwe has already paved the way. Let’s get along with Nigeria. Tinubu won the last election without the South-East,” Cubana Chief Priest stated.
Highlighting strategic voting, he added: “He will win again, so why not give him our votes so he can do what we ask in return? Hopefully, he will hand over power to an Igbo man.”
The socialite showed Tinubu’s formidable political machinery, saying: “He has the best political structure in the country to win elections. The Igbo’s best stake is on Asiwaju. Let’s think it through and not waste our votes.”
The comments reflect ongoing debates in the South-East over engagement with the Tinubu administration amid calls for Kanu’s release, who has been in detention since 2021.
