The Edo State Police Command has initiated a large-scale security deployment ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, assigning no fewer than 5,000 personnel across key locations in the state to maintain order and ensure public safety.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, through a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, who outlined the scope and objective of the operation.
According to the statement, the security arrangement is designed to guarantee a peaceful environment for residents and worshippers during the festive period, with officers strategically positioned in areas expected to attract high human traffic.
“A total of 5,000 police personnel have been deployed to enhance police visibility, dominate public spaces and respond promptly to any emerging situation.
“The deployment cuts across Eid prayer grounds, major roads, motor parks, and other locations expected to witness large gatherings,” the statement read.
The command further disclosed that specialised units, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, have been activated as part of proactive security measures.
“In addition, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel have been strategically positioned and are already carrying out sweeps of designated prayer grounds and high-traffic areas to detect and neutralise any potential threats. These preventive checks will continue throughout the celebration period.”
As part of broader operational directives, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Monday Agbonika, has ordered continuous patrols and intelligence-led policing, particularly along critical entry and exit points into Edo State.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant while going about their normal activities, with the assurance that adequate security presence will be sustained throughout the celebration window.
The police also encouraged the public to promptly report any suspicious movements or objects, reiterating the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
While extending goodwill to the Muslim faithful, the command reaffirmed its readiness to maintain law and order before, during, and after the Eid-el-Fitr festivities.
