Former FCT Minister Rejects Northern Marginalization Narrative

Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Aliyu Modibbo has rebuted the ongoing claims of regional disenfranchisement asserting that Northern Nigeria is not marginalized under the current administration.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV on Friday, Modibbo addressed the state of Northern Nigeria, dismissing allegations of unfair treatment as unfounded.

“What people have been peddling is that the North is marginalized. How? When the ministers were appointed, each state gave its own nominee,” Modibbo stated.

He emphasized equitable representation, noting, “There is no state that is represented twice by another state. Then the president has the prerogative right to add if he wants to.”

Modibbo further highlighted constitutional compliance: “But the North got its right going by what the constitution says that every state must have a minister in the Federal Executive Council, FEC.”

Shifting to resource distribution, he questioned critics rhetorically: “Coming back to allocation, is there any state in the North that has been denied its allocation? Or is there any distribution or intervention done by the president that does not go to any Northern governor?”

Modibbo’s comments come amid broader discussions on regional equity in Nigeria’s federal structure, potentially influencing political discourse ahead of future elections.
