Fuji Artist K1 De Ultimate Blacklisted from Flying After Disruptive Behavior At Abuja Airport

Legendary Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate or Kwam 1, has been placed on a no-fly list and barred from flying within Nigeria for a period of six months following a dangerous altercation at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Recall that on August 5, during boarding for ValueJet Flight VK 201 bound for Lagos, K1 in a now trending video attempted to carry a gold flask of unidentified liquid through security. When aviation staff asked to inspect the content, he allegedly refused and, in response, poured it on a flight attendant, security personnel, and nearby passengers. The situation escalated further when he reportedly stood in front of the aircraft, blocking its taxiway and delaying departure.

As a result, the NCAA suspended the ValueJet pilots involved and imposed the flying ban on the musician.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, described the conduct as “totally unacceptable” and likened the act to a hostage situation, adding that both parties breached ICAO safety protocols. He instructed that all airlines, domestic and international, be notified, with penalties threatened for anyone violating the ban.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), through its Director of Public Affairs Michael Achimugu, reaffirmed that aviation regulations apply to everyone, regardless of status. The musician’s actions during boarding were deemed a serious violation of safety protocols, leading to the six-month restriction.

Simultaneously, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) initiated its own investigation into the breach and condemned the behaviour as unacceptable and unsafe.

K1’s media aide, Kunle Rasheed, firmly denied wrongdoing, insisting the flask contained only plain drinking water provided in the airport lounge. He argued that the story was sensationalised and misleading, claiming K1 never obstructed operations.

The camp also stated that key officials including the Head of Airport Security, FAAN, NCAA representatives, and ValueJet’s leadership, personally contacted the musician and even offered to arrange a private jet for him to complete his journey, gestures they say he respectfully declined.

However, in addition to the aviation ban, NCAA is taking further legal steps. The agency has reached out to the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police to pursue court action against the musician.
