According to Prof. Brisibe, only two passengers died in the accident, contrary to reports suggesting that 10 people were killed, while the remaining passengers are currently receiving treatment at the Toru-Orua Referral Hospital in Sagbama LGA.

According to fellow transporters, the driver had made several trips along the route, conveying passengers to the hometown of the late deputy governor without adequate rest, and reportedly dozed off while travelling to Ofoni at dawn.

It was further gathered that the bus lost control and somersaulted several times before coming to a halt, and by the time rescuers arrived at the scene, two persons had been confirmed dead.
