JUST IN: North Korea’s Ruling Party Unanimously Re-elects Kim Jong Un

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has been re-elected as general secretary of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), according to announcements carried by state media.

The decision was made during a high-level party congress attended by thousands of delegates, where officials reportedly endorsed Kim’s leadership unanimously.

State outlets described the outcome as a reflection of “absolute trust and support” for his stewardship of the country’s political and military affairs. The reports credited Kim with strengthening national defense capabilities and reinforcing internal stability amid ongoing economic pressures and international sanctions.

Messages of congratulations were also reported from foreign leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, who reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to maintaining close bilateral ties with Pyongyang.

While North Korea regularly holds parliamentary-style elections with near-unanimous approval figures, political analysts note that the country does not conduct competitive multiparty presidential elections in the Western sense.

Leadership positions are typically decided within the framework of the ruling party, which dominates all state institutions. Independent verification of official vote counts or internal party proceedings is not permitted, as international observers are not granted access to monitor such events.
