N-HYPPADEC Steps In With N10m, Relief Materials for Kebbi Attack Victims

The Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa, has donated N10 million and assorted food items to victims of recent bandit attacks in Kebbi State.

The attacks, which affected communities including Kawara, Binuwa, Kalkami, Dabe, Kasoshi, Kafar Giwa, and Sa Madubi in Shanga Local Government Area, left several people dead and destroyed property worth millions of naira.

Sadiq-Yelwa announced the donation on Monday, April 13, 2026, during a condolence visit to Shanga LGA, where he sympathised with Governor Nasir Idris and residents over the incident.

He described the attacks as “catastrophic and condemnable,” noting that they were aimed at disrupting peace and livelihoods in the affected communities.

“We condemn this act of cowardice by criminal elements whose intention is to destabilise communities and deprive citizens of their means of livelihood,” he said.

According to him, the intervention was necessary to cushion the impact of the attacks on displaced residents.

“As part of our modest intervention, we are donating N10 million in cash, 100 bags of 50kg rice, and 100 bags of assorted grains, alongside other essential relief materials,” he said.

He added that the items also include cooking oil, seasoning, detergents, soap, blankets, and mats.

Sadiq-Yelwa commended the state government’s response to insecurity and expressed confidence in Governor Idris’ commitment to restoring peace in the affected areas.

Responding on behalf of the governor, the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Garba Salisu-Takware, appreciated the commission for the timely support.

He assured that the cash and relief materials would be distributed promptly to victims, adding that the state government had already put measures in place to assist displaced persons and strengthen security.

The N-HYPPADEC boss also visited the Emir of Yauri, Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, to commiserate with him over the attacks. The monarch commended the commission for its solidarity with affected communities during the difficult period.
