NAPTIP Intercepts Trafficking of 10 Children in Taraba

The Taraba State Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has successfully intercepted a suspected human trafficker along with 10 children in Jalingo, averting what could have been another case of child trafficking to an unknown destination.

The operation took place on Thursday, January 30, 2026, around 11:00 a.m. at Kurmi Park in Jalingo, following a credible intelligence tip-off.

In a statement issued to journalists on Friday in Jalingo, the Taraba State NAPTIP Commandant, Mr. Bako Amos, confirmed the interception was carried out in collaboration with the Special Adviser to the Taraba State Governor on Human Trafficking, Mrs. Sarah Ishaya.

“We intercepted them at Kurmi Park, Jalingo, while they were preparing to traffic the children to an unknown destination,” Amos said.

He added that both the suspected trafficker and the 10 child victims are now in NAPTIP custody, with investigations ongoing to uncover the full circumstances, including the intended destination and any broader network involved.

The timely intervention highlights NAPTIP’s proactive efforts in combating human trafficking in the region, particularly the vulnerability of children to exploitation amid ongoing socio-economic challenges in parts of northern Nigeria.

Authorities have not released further details about the ages of the children, their origins, or the identity of the suspect, pending completion of the investigation.
