Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has refused to rule out a potential bid for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027, declaring that “you never say never in politics.”
El-Rufai made the remark while responding to a direct question on Arise TV on whether he would definitively abstain from contesting the 2027 presidential election. His answer, though cautious, has ignited fresh political speculation across party lines.
“You never say never in politics; 24 hours is a long time,” he said. “Even if I tell you I will not run today, tomorrow it can change, because if all the leaders from my party, for instance, come and say, ‘Look, Nasir, all those that are running have decided that they will leave it, you run.’”
The former governor’s statement signals a strategic ambiguity—neither declaring ambition nor closing the door entirely. Political analysts interpret the comment as a calculated move to retain relevance within national power calculations ahead of 2027.
