NYSC Delivers Free Healthcare Services to Rural Residents in Anambra

The National Youth Service Corps in Anambra State has provided free medical services to rural residents through its Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) programme.

The outreach was held at Pat Angelina Anyaegbu Memorial Hospital in Amichi, benefiting about 120 indigent residents, including women, children, youths, and the elderly.

Speaking at the event, the NYSC State Coordinator, Pauline Ojisua, described the initiative as a major step towards improving healthcare access in underserved communities.

She explained that the HIRD programme is designed to bridge healthcare gaps in rural areas by providing free and comprehensive medical services.

“By improving the health of rural dwellers, we strengthen families and build more resilient communities,” she said, while appreciating the support of local leaders and residents.

Representing the Chairman of Nnewi South Local Government, Uche Ochuba, the Chief of Staff, Emmanuel Anameme, commended the initiative, noting that it would significantly improve access to healthcare in the area.

Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Chukwudalu Orji, praised the collaboration, describing it as key to the programme’s success.

The outreach included free consultations, distribution of medications, and laboratory tests such as HIV and hepatitis screenings, all aimed at improving the overall health and wellbeing of rural residents.
