The Ogun State Police Command has arrested popular TikTok influencer Mirabel amid suspicions that she fabricated a viral story of being sexually assaulted in her home.
The detention follows a series of distressing videos posted by Mirabel, known online as @mirab351, on February 15, where she claimed an unidentified intruder broke in and assaulted her, boasting of powerful family connections to evade justice.
Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the arrest on Friday, stating that Mirabel is under questioning as investigators verify the authenticity of her claims.
“She is with us now, and the investigation is ongoing,” Babaseyi said.
When pressed on potential charges for filing a false report, he added, “The facts will tell at the conclusion of our investigation so we can reach a logical conclusion on whether those allegations were true or not.”
The case took a turn after Mirabel, in a conversation with social media activist Martins Otse better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM) admitted to drug use at the time and suggested she might have hallucinated the incident, raising doubts about her initial account.
Authorities emphasized that the probe will be evidence-driven, highlighting the growing scrutiny on social media influencers amid rising concerns over misinformation and staged content for virality.
Mirabel’s arrest shows the potential legal repercussions for false allegations, which can strain police resources and undermine genuine victims of assault.
