Political commentator Mahdi Shehu has lambasted the proposed Kano Metropolitan Rail Project as nothing more than “pure deception,” claiming it lacks any official backing and is designed to mislead residents amid recent political realignments.
In a scathing post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Shehu argued that the initiative is absent from the federal government’s agenda, with no allocation in the 2026 budget proposals and no discussions at the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
He emphasized the absence of essential groundwork, stating there is “no design on the ground. No contractor. No consultants.”
“This is pure deception. No such provision in the 2026 budgetary proposals. No such memo presented to FEC for deliberation. No design on the ground. No contractor. No consultants,” Shehu wrote.
He further alleged the announcement targets Kano’s populace due to Governor Abba Yusuf’s recent defection: “Just to deceive Kano State people because Abba has joined the ‘Gorilla and reptiles’ club where venoms flow.”
The criticism follows Yusuf’s declaration that the Federal Government had greenlit a ₦1 trillion rail service for the state.
Yusuf’s switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sparked widespread debate nationwide, particularly in Kano, where loyalties remain divided.
