Tinubu to Visit Jos Thursday Over Recent Killings

President Bola Tinubu has shelved his scheduled visit to Ogun State and will travel to Jos, Plateau State capital, on Thursday to commiserate with the government and people of the state following deadly gun attacks that left dozens dead.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to The Sun Nigeria, Tinubu had originally planned to visit Iperu, Ogun State, on Thursday to flag off operations at the Gateway International Cargo Airport.

The Jos visit is to console the families of victims affected by the gunmen attack on Kahir Village, Angwan Rukuba district, where at least 27 people were killed in the Palm Sunday attack at Angwan Rukuba Junction in Jos North Local Government Area.

The visit follows a high-stakes meeting at Aso Rock on Wednesday evening as Punch Newspapers reports Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 6:45pm for discussions with Tinubu on the worsening security situation in the state. After the meeting, Mutfwang told State House correspondents that the President commiserates with the entire state and intends to visit Jos personally to show his love and affection for the people.

Minister of Information Mohammed Idris disclosed that the President had already convened a meeting with top security and intelligence chiefs to assess the crisis, with troops under Operation Enduring Peace deployed to cordon off affected areas and launch search and clearance operations.

From Jos, Tinubu will proceed to Lagos to observe Good Friday, before heading to Ogun State on Saturday, April 4, for the commissioning of the Cargo Airport. He will round off the Easter-period tour with a visit to Bayelsa State on April 10 to commission projects under Governor Duoye Diri’s administration.
