US Condemns ‘Senseless Violence’ in Kwara as Death Toll from Terror Attacks Surges to 200

The United States Mission in Nigeria has strongly condemned the horrific terrorist attacks on communities in Kwara State, describing the killings as “senseless violence” after the death toll climbed to over 200.

The US Mission issued the condemnation via a post on its official X account, responding to the gruesome assaults that targeted Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area on Tuesday night.

Terrorists invaded the villages, opened fire indiscriminately on residents, burned homes, and carried out widespread destruction. The attacks left hundreds dead, with many victims shot at close range and others reportedly burnt alive, according to various reports and ongoing recovery efforts.

The US Mission’s statement read in full, “The United States condemns the horrific attack in Kwara state in Nigeria, which claimed the lives of more than 160 people, with the death toll still unconfirmed and many still unaccounted for. We express our deepest condolences to the families of those affected by this senseless violence. We welcome President Tinubu’s order to deploy security forces to protect villages in the area and his directive to federal and state officials to provide aid to the community and bring the perpetrators of this atrocity to justice.”

The statement noted an initial reported toll of over 160, with the figure rising further amid continued searches for bodies. TRUTH LIVE NEWS gathered that the death toll reached 200 by Thursday night, making it one of the deadliest single incidents in recent Nigerian history.

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of security forces, including an army battalion, to safeguard vulnerable villages, provide relief to affected residents, and pursue justice against the perpetrators. The attacks have been linked to terrorist elements frustrated by ongoing counterterrorism operations in the region.
