The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has appointed a caretaker committee to take over the party’s affairs in Plateau State.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, National Publicity Secretary of the faction’s National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC).
The 13-man committee is headed by Dr Gideon Nandem Tyem as Chairman, with Goje A. Hirfo serving as Secretary. It has been empowered to run the Plateau State chapter pending the emergence of a new executive committee.
Mohammed explained that the appointment was made “pursuant to constitutional provisions empowering the committee to manage state chapters pending the emergence of new executives.”
He described the move as “crucial to the party’s rebuilding strategy,” adding that the caretaker panel is mandated to “oversee operations and stabilise internal structures during the transition period.”
The statement stressed that the arrangement is strictly temporary.
“The tenure of these committees shall be for 30 days, or until such a time as a new Executive Committee is elected,” it read.
The appointments, according to Mohammed, take immediate effect, and the new leaders are expected to assume office across the affected state chapters without delay.
The development is the latest in a series of internal reorganisations by the Wike-aligned PDP faction, which has been asserting control over several state structures in the run-up to the 2027 polls.
