NIGERIA, AKWA IBOM – The Federal High Court in Uyo has issued a writ of summons against the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) Company and four other defendants in a suit filed by the Itam & Itu Feeder Electricity Consumers Association.
The lawsuit, marked as FHC/UY/CS/144/25, also lists PHED’s Managing Director, Ete Pinnick; the Regional Manager for Ikot Ekpene Region, Idongest Udo Essien; the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN); and the Nigeria Electricity Regulations Commission (NERC) as defendants.
According to the court document, the plaintiffs allege grievances related to electricity supply and distribution in the Itam and Itu areas of Akwa Ibom State.
The court has directed the defendants to appear within 30 days of service or risk judgment being entered in their absence.
“You are hereby commanded within 30 days after service of this writ… to cause an appearance to be entered for you in Uyo Judicial Division of the Federal High Court,” the court document states. It further warns that “in default of your so doing, the Claimant may proceed therein and judgment may be given in your absence.”
The case, dated March 24, 2025, was officially stamped by the court’s registrar.
Efforts to reach representatives of PHED and NERC for comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
More details are expected as the case unfolds.
