French President Emmanuel Macron plans to warn US President Donald Trump about the dangers of aligning with Russian President Vladimir Putin, citing the potential consequences for dealing with China and Iran.
Macron is scheduled to meet with Trump on Monday to discuss the situation in Ukraine.
During an online Q&A session, Macron emphasized that showing weakness to Putin would undermine Trump’s interests.
Macron stated, “Deep down, you cannot be weak in the face of President Putin.
“It’s not you, it’s not what you’re made of, and it’s not in your interests.”
Following the online session, Macron had a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, their fourth discussion in the past week.
They reviewed efforts to achieve a lasting peace in Ukraine and strengthen European security.
“We thoroughly discussed our views on security guarantees – a just and lasting peace is our shared goal, and we are working towards it together.
“This is how true Patners should work”. He said on X.
Zelensky described the call as “long, substantial, and constructive,” highlighting their shared goal of a just and lasting peace.
