The Police Division of Odeda Local Government Area in Ogun State have arrested Akintoye Waris and his partner in crime, Ajayi Yusuf, for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat valued at ₦200,000 for a child’s naming ceremony.

As revealed by the spokesperson for the command, Omolola Odutola, the suspects were nabbed on January 2, 2025, in the Odeda area of Ogun State.

According to police reports, Waris and Yusuf invaded a farm in the area on December 25, 2024, while the farm owner, identified simply as Mark, had taken cattle for grazing. Upon returning, Mark discovered that one of his goats was missing.

A community search was launched, during which villagers reported seeing the two suspects riding a motorcycle with the missing goat toward Olodo town. Acting on this tip-off, detectives traced and arrested Waris and Yusuf in the early hours of January 2, 2025.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to stealing, transporting, and slaughtering the goat on December 27, 2024. They revealed that the goat was used to prepare food for Waris’s daughter’s naming ceremony, which took place in Olodo.

Odutola stated, “The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation at the Divisional Crime Branch. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, they will be prosecuted in court.”

She reassured the public that any updates on the case would be communicated in due course.

This incident highlights the police’s commitment to addressing theft and criminal activities within Ogun State, ensuring justice for victims.
