The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has revealed a roster of 10 products originating in Nigeria that have faced rejection abroad.

The agency attributes these rejections to deviations from standardized clearance procedures by stakeholders.

According to the agency, some of the frequently spurned export food items from Nigeria since 2018 up to the present, and included in the top 10, consist of sesame, beans, melon seeds, peanuts and smoked fish/fish meal, ginger, paper for spices, hibiscus flower, palm oil, and ogbono.

Speaking during her presentation at the 3rd CHINET Aviacargo conference in Lagos, titled “Overcoming Logistic Challenges to Enhance Agricultural Export Products,”

Sanwo-Olu O.A., Deputy Director of the Export Division within the Ports Inspection Directorate of NAFDAC, attributed these rejections to non-compliance with established standards among freight forwarders, cargo handlers, airlines/carriers, regulatory bodies, and inadequate inter-agency cooperation, among other factors.
