The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has reminded Nigerians of the ongoing ban on the sale of imported frozen chicken, turkey, and catfish.
The agency reiterated the ban during a sensitisation programme at the Kado Fish Market in Abuja.
NAFDAC emphasized its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s policy aimed at promoting local farmers and producers of frozen products.
Mr. Kenneth Azikiwe, NAFDAC’s Director for the Federal Capital Territory, encouraged traders to prioritize proper storage of frozen goods to ensure safety and quality. He also urged the public to purchase locally produced and NAFDAC-registered products to support the economy and maintain health standards.
Speaking at the event, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed, Chairman of the Abuja Fish and Frozen Food Sellers Association, pledged the association’s commitment to complying with NAFDAC’s regulations. He called on the agency to implement enforcement measures fairly and consistently.
The sensitisation programme is part of NAFDAC’s broader efforts to ensure food safety and promote sustainable practices in the frozen food sector, aligning with Nigeria’s push for self-sufficiency and economic growth.
