The ongoing rehabilitation of the National Assembly complex will has said will gulp take about N30 billion, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Muhammad Bello disclosed on Thursday.
According to the minister the N30,229,290,830.35 contractual sum meant to carry out the rehabilitation, N9.2 billion had been paid to the contractor, leaving an outstanding balance of N21.029 billion
Bello made the disclosure while speaking with Legislators during an oversight function by the Senate Committee on FCT in Abuja.
He explained that the structure -National assembly’s phase II popularly called “the white house”, had between 1996-1999 been maintained by IT Nigeria Ltd. For a long time now, no major rehabilitation, work has been carried out on the building over the years, he added.
Furthermore, the contract which awarded on December 30, 2021 and had a completion period of 16 months.
“The commencement date is April 16 and it is expected to be completed on August 15, 2023.”
