Edo State officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has seeks partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council to disseminate information on disaster management and prevention.
Speaking during the courtesy visit on the leadership of the Union, the Head of Operations, Edo State NEMA, Ojuederie Oghenero who led other agency’s management team, said the media can help the agency a lot being the watchdog of the society by informing the public on what to do in a disastrous situations.
According to him, the media are critical stakeholders when it comes to disaster management and it’s only the media who can help to disseminating our information to the public to prepare them for impending disasters, to mitigate against disasters, so that we can have a better disaster management system like that in the United States.
Responding, the Chairman of the Edo State Council of the NUJ, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, while pledging the media support to the NEMA, charged the agency to incorporate the aspect of training for the media practitioners in their schedule so that they will be able to adequately report on disaster management.
