The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has outlined his seven key priorities after assuming office. He aims to implement policies that address internal security challenges and enhance the performance of the ministry and its agencies.
The seven priority areas are as follows:
Deployment of technology in border security: The minister intends to leverage technology to effectively secure Nigeria’s borders and combat illegal activities.
Removal of passport bottlenecks: Tunji-Ojo aims to streamline the passport application process and eliminate any obstacles that may hinder the issuance of passports.
Improved fire response time: Recognizing the severity of fire disasters, the minister plans to optimize the processes of the Federal Fire Service to enhance their response time and effectiveness.
Reformation of inmates: The minister is determined to reform the Nigerian correctional system to ensure that it does not simply recycle criminals but instead focuses on rehabilitation and reintegration.
Tackling insecurity: Tunji-Ojo is committed to addressing the prevailing security challenges in the country and creating an environment where Nigerians can feel safe and secure.
Decongestion of custodial centers: The minister aims to alleviate congestion in custodial centers by implementing measures to expedite legal processes and improve the justice system.
Passage of new Fire Act: Tunji-Ojo intends to push for the passage of a new Fire Act that will provide a modern legal framework for fire prevention, response, and management in the country.
With these priorities, the minister seeks to fulfill President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda and bring positive changes to the Ministry of Interior and its agencies.
