The Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar has tendered his resignation to President Bola Tinubu, effective immediately, amid escalating nationwide insecurity that has claimed hundreds of lives in recent months.
The announcement, confirmed by sources close to the Presidency late Monday, comes just days after a spate of brazen attacks, including the mass abduction of over 300 schoolchildren in Niger State and renewed Boko Haram incursions in Borno and Yoke.
Badaru, a former Jigawa State governor appointed in 2023, cited personal reasons but insiders point to mounting pressure from failed military operations and public outrage over the government’s inability to stem banditry, kidnappings, and insurgency.
