Corps Member Asked to Repeat NYSC After Eight Months Sparks Reactions Online

A Nigerian corps member has stirred widespread reactions online after revealing that she was asked to repeat her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme after already serving for eight months.

The corps member, identified as @Ovokeroh on TikTok, shared her emotional experience in a viral video, expressing shock and frustration over the development.

According to her, the decision means she will have to relocate to a new city and begin the one-year service afresh.

When questioned about the reason behind the decision, she described it as a disciplinary measure.

“It’s punishment. Moving to a new city to repeat my NYSC after 8 months of serving in another state. Going to the city NYSC thinks is best for me,” she said.

Despite her initial distress, the corps member said she was trying to remain positive.

“I’m done crying so it’s time to laugh and hope everything works out well,” she added.

Her revelation quickly gained traction on social media, with many Nigerians expressing surprise, sympathy, and curiosity over the circumstances that led to the decision.

Some users questioned whether such penalties exist within the scheme, while others shared similar experiences and advice.

“Wait!!!! People repeat NYSC???” one user, @Gbemifash, asked.

Another commenter, @Rita Laura, wrote, “What really happened so that me self can learn and know what to do.”

“I’ll just go back home because stress for what?” @ist_skin reacted.

Offering encouragement, @oyindsvlogs said, “I refused to go during my time, I was brought back to Abuja, it’ll be fine my love.”

Others attempted to lighten the situation, with one user joking about the extended allowance.

“Well, it means additional allawee for additional 12 months,” @Abdulrasheed Hammad commented.

The incident has since sparked conversations around NYSC policies, discipline, and the experiences of corps members across the country.
