FG Engages EFCC, ICPC to Audit Federal Road Projects Nationwide

The Nigerian government has invited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to verify all ongoing and completed federal road projects nationwide, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has announced.

Umahi revealed the plan on Thursday during the reopening of the Keffi Flyover, which collapsed on 4 July 2025 after a container-laden trailer carrying an excavator struck the structure.

The minister said the audit aims to enhance transparency, ensure accountability, and boost public confidence in federally funded infrastructure projects.

“I want the public to know that I wrote to the ICPC and submitted all the projects undertaken by Mr President and the Ministry of Works from the very first day he assumed office,” Umahi said. “We asked them to visit every state in the federation, including Abuja, to scrutinise and verify these projects and take whatever action they deem necessary. This is unprecedented.”

The EFCC has also been provided with the list of projects, though the agency has not yet fully deployed its teams across the states. Umahi emphasised that the move reflects the administration’s commitment to transparency under President Bola Tinubu.

Addressing contractors, the minister assured that outstanding payments would be settled. “Please, no more protests. You will be paid. Before 20 December, your payments will be processed,” he said, noting the rapid release of funds for the Keffi Flyover repair, which he said was approved within 24 hours of briefing the President.

The announcement comes amid growing public concern over incomplete or poorly executed infrastructure projects and highlights the government’s effort to ensure compliance with federal standards and financial accountability.
