Federal government has praised the Super Eagles for their performance at the Nations Cup, describing the team as a source of national inspiration despite their semi-final exit.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, commended the players for their character and resilience throughout the tournament.
The Super Eagles were eliminated after losing 4–2 on penalties to Morocco, following missed spot-kicks by Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi.
Reacting to the defeat, the minister said the team’s display went beyond the final result, stressing that their commitment and teamwork had earned the respect of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
“Even in defeat, you showed character, teamwork, and resilience, and those qualities matter deeply to the nation you represent,” the statement said.
It added that while football comes with both victories and setbacks, the players’ fighting spirit and dedication had brought pride to the country.
“You reminded us that wearing the green and white is about courage, unity, and never giving up,” the statement continued.
The government said Nigeria remained proud of the Super Eagles and grateful for the joy and hope they gave fans during the competition.
