A group, God and People Prayer Parliament, has advocated and proposed seven confederal republics for Nigeria, saying that the structure of the country as it constituted at the moment can no longer work.
The group led by Dr. Dele Oluwatade announced the proposal while unveiling the map of the proposed seven confederal republics.
The seven proposed confederal republics are Hausa Republic to consist of Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa and Kaduna states; Borno Republic to consist of the current Borno, Yobe, Southern Gombe and Bauchi states; Oduduwa Republic to consist of the current Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Kwara, Ondo and Kogi states, while Edo and Delta states were proposed for Midwest Republic.
Other republics proposed are Kwararafa Republic to consist of the current Niger, Plateau, Taraba, Benue Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory; Biafra Republic to consist of the current Imo, Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi states and Niger Delta Republic to consist of the present Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibomtates.
The convener of the group, Dr. Oluwatade, explained that apart from the present Yoruba states proposed for Oduduwa Republic, other “Yoruba speaking areas of Kogi and Kwara down to South-South that speak ‘Wa’ should be part of the Oduduwa land.
“Any community in the East, Midwest, South-South, Benue, Kogi that speaks ‘Bia’ should be in the Biafra Republic. Others who don’t speak ‘Wa’ and ‘Bia’ belong to the Midwestern Republic.
“It is important to let Nigerians know that it is time to settle down to peaceful coexistence as we were before the British colonisers invaded and took over the Niger Benue Garden of the black African kingdoms.
“Nigeria copied the parliamentary and the presidential systems of government and adulterated them to accommodate our greed, aggressive and oppressive imperial characters.
“The past and present political systems were copied from other countries without the essential stabilizers like secession and referendum clauses and rules of engagement.
“The world cannot be watching us butcher ourselves with racial and religious genocides, banditry and political disfranchisement of major stakeholders. We either settle ourselves quickly or they will come to put us right.
“The President, His Excellency Bola Tinubu, should reshuffle his cards and bring restructuring to the front burner now as a wise political giant in the committee of nations.
“We need a system that will insulate/protect Nigerians from each other, while living peacefully together in one country.
“This will preserve Nigeria’s status as the largest black nation in the world.
“The President should stop playing election and party politics for now, it is time to emancipate the black people of Nigeria with the creation of Confederation Republics of the major stakeholders and empower them to defend themselves,” he said.
He noted that, “movements like Biafra and Yoruba nations have gained international traction, pointing out that the country cannot work with the present structure.”
He stated that Nigeria is currently practising a drained-pipe democracy and advised that Nigeria should restructure itself quickly into confederal republics to preempt international forces that may want to disintegrate Nigeria.
