Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen launched a deadly midnight assault on Otobi-Akpa community in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, claiming the lives of at least four residents and leaving several others unaccounted for.
Truth Live News learnt that the heavily armed attackers invaded the community around 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday, firing sporadically and sending panicked residents fleeing into the surrounding bush for safety. The assault persisted for several hours, spreading terror throughout the night.
According to Daily Post, among the confirmed dead are Hon. Ochi Ayedu, Eje Uzu, Alinko, and Achibi. As of the time of this report, search efforts continue amid fears that the death toll could rise, with multiple residents still missing after escaping the chaos.
This fresh violence echoes a previous devastating attack on the same community just months earlier, where at least 13 people were killed, numerous others injured or reported missing, and over 50 houses razed to the ground.
The recurring attacks have heightened insecurity concerns in the region, with residents and local leaders calling for urgent intervention to halt the cycle of violence. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the latest incident.
