The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has issued a public apology to Nigerians over the recent spate of power outages that have plunged many parts of the country into darkness.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the minister acknowledged the widespread frustration caused by the erratic electricity supply, describing the situation as both regrettable and unacceptable. He appealed for calm and understanding, assuring citizens that the Federal Government is taking urgent steps to stabilise the national grid.
Adelabu, who is also an Oyo State governorship aspirant, said concrete measures are already being implemented to address the underlying challenges responsible for the outages. According to him, the Ministry of Power, in collaboration with relevant agencies and stakeholders in the electricity value chain, is working round the clock to improve generation, transmission, and distribution.
“We understand the hardship this situation has caused Nigerians, and we sincerely apologise,” the minister said. “Efforts are ongoing to resolve technical and operational issues affecting the grid, and we are confident that there will be noticeable improvements in electricity supply within the coming weeks.”
He further emphasised the government’s commitment to long-term reforms aimed at ensuring a more reliable and sustainable power sector, noting that investments in infrastructure and policy adjustments are being prioritised.
The recent power disruptions have sparked public outcry, with businesses and households grappling with increased costs of alternative energy sources and reduced productivity.
