Nigerian Army Arrests Suspected Bandit During Snap Checkpoint Operation in Kaduna

Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have arrested a suspected bandit, Ibrahim Adamu, during a snap checkpoint operation in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, recovering an AK-47 magazine, mobile phones, Indian hemp, and other items.

Security sources said the suspect was arrested at about 6:04 p.m. on May 8 by troops of the 2 Battalion deployed at the Forward Operating Base in Dogon Dawa.

The troops had mounted a snap roadblock in the Damari area of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area when they intercepted the suspect, who was riding a motorcycle. According to  Daily Post Nigeria, the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Ibrahim Adamu, was searched, during which troops recovered one AK-47 rifle magazine, three mobile phones, Indian hemp, and other personal belongings.

Preliminary exploitation of the suspect’s mobile phone revealed incriminating photographs showing him dressed in military camouflage and armed with a PKT machine gun alongside other persons, raising suspicions about his criminal affiliations and activities.

The Nigerian Army disclosed the development in a statement shared on its official social media accounts, saying the operations were carried out by troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, as part of ongoing offensives against criminal elements across the country.

It is worth noting that the claim in some versions of this story that the suspect was “popular on TikTok” has not been confirmed by the Nigerian Army’s official statement, or any other credible source.
