Police Reject Multi-Million Bribe, Bust Lagos Drug Warehouse With ₦7.8 Billion Worth of Canadian Loud

Operatives of the Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force, in a coordinated operation involving the Special Protection Unit and divisional detectives, have dismantled a suspected drug trafficking network in Lagos, recovering hundreds of bags of cannabis strain known as Canadian Loud reportedly valued at ₦7.8 billion.

The sting operation led to the raid of a residential property in the Mende area of Maryland, Lagos, where the drugs were uncovered. The operation followed months of surveillance on the suspect, who was allegedly using a POS paper business as a cover for drug trafficking.

“For several months, we intensified our surveillance around him. On May 19, 2026, we were successful,” said the Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 2, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, while addressing journalists at the suspect’s residence on Saturday. A search of the apartment led to the recovery of 425 bags of Canadian Loud estimated to be worth about ₦7 billion.

In what has drawn widespread commendation, the suspect attempted to compromise the operation with a ₦500 million bribe, but the officers involved declined and followed due process. The AIG described the operation as a testament to intelligence-led policing and effective collaboration between specialised units and divisional commands.

When questioned by journalists, the suspect admitted ownership of the seized drugs and said he supplied them to individuals who distribute the substance to neighbouring countries. The AIG said the police have expanded investigations into a wider drug network.

“We are going further to investigate those who have collaborated with him at every level to get this thing into the country. Our investigation is ongoing and we have made significant progress in arresting those involved in the distribution of these illicit drugs,” Jimoh said.

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, in a separate statement, commended the officers for their professionalism. “The professionalism shown in rejecting a ₦500 million bribe and carrying out the operation successfully reflects the standard expected of officers and strengthens public confidence in policing,” the IGP stated.
